With the support of the Rotary Club of Saanich in Victoria and the Rotary Club of Kololo in Kampala we have been successful in obtaining a “Global Grant” from Rotary International to finance a Sports Pitch complete with dressing room, showers, latrine; and to complete, furnish, and stock the Library complete with books, furniture, solar power and two computers at the Jolly Children’s Development Centre located in Masuliita, Uganda. Geoff went to Uganda for a week in early December to finalize the planning for the two projects and to get things started.

The trip was intense with many meetings but was a success. Together with AFC and the Rotary Club of Kololo Geoff met, at the school, with all of the contractors that will be involved in the projects. They walked the site and reviewed the plans. There is a drainage issue on the land where the sports pitch will be and more trenching than initially planned will be required for the field to be useable year round.

This water on the site provides an opportunity for another project … a “Protected Spring Project”. The project will trench the water to a single channel, filter it and make it available for use at the school and by the neighbors. JNFC can provide the seed money to start the project but additional funds will be required to bring this project to completion. We are hoping to raise the money before the end of January so we can complete this project together with the Library and Sports Pitch.

Last year another supporting organization funded the construction of a new building at the school. The building will house two ECD classrooms and a clinic, as there is no clinic close by, for the children and local residents. JNFC has some funds available and these will be used to provide supplies and equipment for the clinic. Of course the list of requested supplies and equipment exceeds the available funding

Geoff, Leanne and Jill will be off to Uganda in February. While there, they will be spending time at the school and hope to be there to see the completion of the Library and significant progress on the other projects.

If you would like to support these projects please use the Canada Helps button on our web site www.JNFCanada.org to make a donation. And if you would like more information email us at: Info@JNFCanada.org
JNFC conducted its AGM on June 8th. Significant to note is the change in the Board of Directors. At the last AGM the Board approved an increase in the number of directors from 5 to 6. This position was not filled during the 2009/10 fiscal year.

In addition Judi Peacock tendered her resignation at the end of May. With three teenagers at home and working full time she doesn’t have a lot of spare time. Judi has been involved in JNFC since the start and as a member of JNFC will continue her support as a volunteer.

To fill the two vacancies there are now two new board members. John Wilton a semi retired pastor who brings a wealth of board experience, pastoral experience and knowledge, as well as a proven ability to get things done in a volunteer environment. Shannon Nichols a senior IT professional has wide consulting expertise and a strong business background.

Both John and Shannon have a heart for Africa and will help JNFC into the future.
